The Bel Air 2-door hardtop was introduced in 1950, as was the Powerglide 2-speed automatic transmission. Cars equipped with the Powerglide got 235 CID straight-6 engines. Those with the manual trans. got 216s. 1951 saw the end of the fastback, Fleetline, models and an increase in Powerglide transmission sales to almost 50% of all Chevys sold.
